How To Tell if You are On a Secure Website
THERE are many different ways to tell if you are on a secure website with SSL encryption. I will only be covering one way right now, and that happens to be the most common. All you need to do is look in the address bar of your web browser and see if it says http:// or http://. If it says http:// you are not on a secure SLL website. However, if the address bar says https:// then you are going to be on a secure SSL encrypted website.
What does this whole http and https business even mean? Well http stands for: “Hyper Text Transfer Protocol” . This is a networking protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia information systems. But, if you are reading this, all you really need to know is that one more secure than another.
Now, https stands for “hyper text transfer protocol secured” this is a combination of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) with SSL protocol to provide encrypted communication and secure identification of a network web server. HTTPS connections are often used for payment transactions on the World Wide Web and for sensitive transactions in corporate information systems.
What is the difference you may ask. Well I am not going to cover all of that, but you can go to my other blog post: All About SSL so you can read much more in detail.
